This last Pierce Proud Tour Stop was an exciting one, as a few of our Alumni Association Board of Directors members traveled to Hawaii on August 15th to visit the Franklin Pierce alumni down there! Check out the pictures and report below from AABOD member, Art Fink ’72.
“Aloha! From the Beautiful Islands of Hawaii!!
Scott Babitts ’73, Katie Babitts, Marcy Fink ’73, and I have just returned from our great vacation and hosting two ‘Pierce Pride Meet and Greets’ for our fellow alums living in the paradise of the Hawaiian Islands.
At our get-together, on the Island of Oahu, we had the pleasure of spending a few hours visiting with alumni, Ben Doskocil (Class of 2007), his lovely wife Maryam (who attended FPU at the same time) with their adorable eighteen month- old daughter, Marina. After graduating from Franklin Pierce, Ben attended Suffolk Law School in Boston. Ben is now an attorney with the Navy JAG stationed in Hawaii, and Maryam is a stay-at-home mom. We enjoyed a great evening with Ben and Maryam talking about their experiences at Franklin Pierce, their lives now after graduating, and how Franklin Pierce has influenced their lives today. Ben and Maryam will be returning to New England after his Tour of Duty in Hawaii is completed. It was a wonderful, fulfilled evening.
Our next stop was the Island of Maui where we once again spent a few hours hosting Jeanne Hauerstock (Class of 1976) and her terrific husband, Steve Bond, who is a native of Hawaii. After spending many years on “The Mainland”, Jeanne and Steve made the choice to return to their mountain home in Maui to enjoy life. Reminiscing, smiling and laughing all the while, we sat for hours talking about old times at Franklin Pierce. Jeanne brought us an outrageously beautiful native flower from her garden called a “King Protea”, only grown in Hawaii, an absolutely gorgeous flower from their orchard. Jeanne was so surprised and delighted to hear from other alums, and our get-together was enjoyed by all of us.
As you can tell, our trip to Hawaii was wonderful, fun-filled, and made even more exciting by hosting what we consider our newest FPU friends! Visiting with Franklin Pierce alums made our trip to both islands even more special. Yes, we’ll do it all over again next time we go!!!!”
